The University of Jamestown softball team split a conference doubleheader against Valley City State University, with the Jimmies winning game one 5-4 and the Vikings taking game two 12-5. In game one, Jamestown rallied for a pair of runs in the seventh inning to secure the win, with Lauren Weigel hitting a home run to put them ahead. Maddie Spaeth tied the game with a single and Kylie Yanzuk drew a walk to force home the go-ahead run. Hope Ransome pitched the final innings for her fourth save. Game two saw Valley City State hit six home runs, handing Jamestown its first conference loss. Kayla Quintanilla hit a three-run home run for the Jimmies but it wasn’t enough. Lauren Weigel also had a two-run homer in the game. The teams will meet again Sunday afternoon to finish their weekend series. The Jimmies’ record is now 25-12 overall, 9-1 in the conference, while Valley City State stands at 17-16, 6-4 in conference play.
