Do Lifestyle, Diet, and Stress Management Have the Potential to Reverse Diabetes? Doctors Weigh In

Diabetes, both Type 1 and Type 2, is a serious health concern affecting millions of individuals across the country. While Type 2 diabetes is easier to manage, it still requires necessary lifestyle and dietary modifications for control. Dr. Paras Agarwal from Marengo Asia Healthcare Hospital emphasized the importance of adopting a healthier lifestyle within the first two years of diagnosis, as it can lead to diabetes remission. Remission indicates that a patient can manage their diabetes without medication, but neglecting lifestyle changes can result in the reappearance of the disease.

Anoop Gupta, a clinical nutritionist and lifestyle coach from Bhopal, highlighted five key factors for achieving diabetes remission – focusing on physical health, mental well-being, emotional health, quality sleep, and improved digestion. Stress management, sufficient sleep, a healthy gut microbiome, and proper meal timing are essential components of these factors. Regular physical activity, including yoga and meditation, is also crucial for controlling blood sugar levels without medication.

It is important for diabetic individuals to consult with a team of healthcare professionals, including a lifestyle coach, nutrition expert, dietician, and doctor, to effectively pursue diabetes remission. By prioritizing lifestyle changes, such as stress reduction, quality sleep, a healthy digestive system, proper meal timing, and regular physical activity, individuals with diabetes can potentially achieve remission and significantly improve their health.
