Man convicted of murdering 4 family members and pregnant woman in dispute over curfew from teenage years

Raymond Childs III, a 21-year-old man from Indianapolis, was convicted of six counts of murder, including the killing of his father, stepmother, two siblings, and his brother’s girlfriend who was pregnant during the time of the shooting. The attack, which occurred in January 2021, stemmed from an argument over Childs staying out late. Childs was also convicted of attempted murder and carrying a handgun without a license.

After a mistrial in his initial trial due to a witness confrontation, Childs was found guilty following a five-day trial and three hours of jury deliberation. The Marion County Prosecutor expressed that the verdict provided justice for the victims and their loved ones, acknowledging the challenging journey they had endured.

The prosecutor stated that the events that took place inside the home were unimaginable and highlighted the dedication of the trial team, law enforcement, and witnesses in seeking justice for the victims. Childs’ sentencing is scheduled for January 7, and he faces significant prison time for each murder count, the attempted murder charge, and the handgun charge.

Childs’ defense attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The tragic incident has had a profound impact on the victims’ families and the community, with the prosecutor emphasizing the importance of seeking justice for those who lost their lives in this horrific crime.
