Person in custody following shooting at Texas high school leaving 4 injured

Four students were injured, three with gunshot wounds, after a shooting at Wilmer-Hutchins High School in Dallas. The victims’ ages ranged from 15 to 18, with injuries varying from serious to non-life-threatening. The gunman was identified but initially at large, before being arrested and held in Dallas County Jail.

The shooting led to a chaotic scene, with students evacuating the main school building after the incident occurred around 1 p.m. The school had experienced a shooting in a classroom the previous year. Dallas ISD officials expressed frustration at the recurrence of such incidents, emphasizing the need for better security measures.

The district confirmed that the firearm did not enter the school during the usual intake period when students pass through metal detectors. However, details about how the gun was brought into the building, as well as the circumstances leading up to the shooting, were not disclosed.

Classes at Wilmer-Hutchins High School were canceled for the remainder of the week, with counselors available for students and faculty dealing with the aftermath of the shooting. District officials emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the incident as they work to ensure the safety of students and staff in the future.
