Megan Langley, founder and executive director of Strengthen ND, was recently awarded the Main Street Excellence Award for the organization’s commitment to innovative workforce solutions. Strengthen ND focuses on supporting rural communities, nonprofits, and entrepreneurs in North Dakota through capacity building, community-driven solutions, and advancing regional priorities. The organization runs a state-based AmeriCorps program, placing workers in communities to provide extra support. They also operate the Strong Farm Incubator, helping startup farmers refine their operating models with the goal of creating resilient, community-driven solutions. Strengthen ND is also working on Senate Bill 2097, which aims to create a flexible funding source for communities with less than 1,000 residents. The organization has been successful in funding community projects, such as a community-owned financing tool in Sheyenne, demonstrating that communities know best how to improve and grow. Strengthen ND’s mission is to provide accessible grant funding to support community-driven initiatives across North Dakota.
