ND is closer to banning alternative voting methods, reports Public News Service

The North Dakota Legislature is on track to ban alternative voting methods such as ranked-choice and approval voting for local elections. Fargo was the first city in the U.S. to use approval voting, but opponents of the bill argue that the state shouldn’t micromanage local elections. Gov. Kelly Armstrong’s stance on the bill is unclear. In another state, Arizona, the League of Women Voters is fighting back against President Trump’s executive order requiring in-person document proof for voting, calling it unconstitutional. In Nevada, organizers are protesting Trump’s policies, emphasizing the importance of protecting programs like Social Security and Medicaid. Colorado lawmakers are pushing back against Trump’s executive order requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote, stating it would disproportionately affect low-income voters and people of color. David Becker of the Center for Election Innovation and Research criticized the order, calling it an infringement on states’ rights to run elections. The order also falsely claims that election protections are lacking.
