A convicted murderer, Kathan Guzman, who was mistakenly released from jail in March, has been apprehended and arrested in Florida. Guzman was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his girlfriend in Georgia in 2024. He was mistakenly released from jail in March and the error was only discovered when the district attorney’s office contacted the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office. Guzman was found in Ocoee, Florida, on Friday morning by the U.S. Marshals Service. The cause of Guzman’s release is under investigation, and disciplinary actions are pending within the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office. Once the investigation is complete, it may result in the termination of employees. Guzman is currently being held in Florida.
