Global megachurch Greater Grace World Outreach, headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, has announced plans to commission an independent investigation following allegations of sexual abuse by former members. The church elders expressed sorrow and commitment to addressing the situation and ensuring a safe environment for all. However, a group of survivors called The Millstones rejected the church’s promises, citing a history of victim-blaming.
Formed in 2019, The Millstones heard from 32 people who claimed they were sexually abused by prominent male church members during their childhood. The victims accused church leaders of failing to respond adequately to the allegations. Some survivors have already seen justice served, such as the Tanguay brothers, who were abused by a former youth leader. The church has pledged to hire an independent firm to conduct a comprehensive investigation, expecting it to take six months or more.
Despite the ongoing investigation, a third man who was also abused by the same perpetrator praised the church for its support during his recovery. He emphasized the importance of forgiveness and hope for healing. Greater Grace World Outreach plans to be transparent about the findings of the investigation and make any necessary changes to ensure a safe environment for all members. The church asks for patience and prayers during this process.
