Former South Dakota State basketball player, Chris Howell, has returned to his alma mater as an assistant coach, announced by head coach Bryan Petersen. Howell, a Milwaukee native, brings coaching experience from Marquette University, where he was part of a coaching staff that reached the NCAA Tournament. Prior to his time at Marquette, Howell worked at Hill College and the University of Mary.
During his college playing career, Howell was a key contributor to the Jackrabbits’ success, helping the team secure 46 wins, two Summit League Tournament championships, and a regular-season title. Howell, who also played at Butler Community College and Jackson State, brings a wealth of playing experience to his coaching role.
Petersen expressed excitement about the addition of Howell to the coaching staff, citing his knowledge of the program and infectious energy. Howell, who received his bachelor’s degree from South Dakota State in human development and family studies, is also equipped with a master’s degree in sports management from Jackson State.
In his statement, Howell expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to return to SDSU and learn from coach Petersen, whom he had a prior relationship with from his playing days. He looks forward to developing relationships with the team and contributing to the success of Jackrabbit basketball.
