Treysen Eaglestaff made history with a 51-point performance in North Dakota’s win over South Dakota State in the Summit League tournament quarterfinals. The junior guard’s record-setting night included the most points scored by a Division I player this season and made him just the fifth player in conference history with a 50-point game. This accomplishment marked the fourth time in school history that a player reached the 50-point mark, with two of those instances coming under the coaching of Hall of Fame coach Phil Jackson.
Despite a 14-point deficit at one point in the game, North Dakota rallied to outscore South Dakota State 52-31 in the second half, thanks in large part to Eaglestaff’s impressive scoring display. The guard went 15 for 28 from the field, including 8 for 18 from 3-point range, and made 13-of-17 free throws.
Head coach Paul Sather praised Eaglestaff not only for his on-court performance but also for his character, highlighting the young guard’s heart and character. With an average of 19.3 points per game on the season, Eaglestaff has been a key contributor for North Dakota.
The Fighting Hawks will now advance to the semifinals to face St. Thomas-Minnesota, riding the momentum of Eaglestaff’s historic performance as they continue their quest for a Summit League title.
