Minot Mayor Resigns After Sending Lewd Video to City Attorney
The mayor of Minot, North Dakota, Tom Ross, has resigned after mistakenly sending a lewd video to the city attorney, Stefanie Stalheim. The incident occurred in January, when Ross sent a video of himself masturbating to Stalheim shortly after they had a telephone call discussing a police officer’s suicide.
In a report made public on the same day as Ross’s resignation, it was revealed that he asked Stalheim to delete the video and keep the incident between them. Ross claimed he meant to send the video to his romantic partner and apologized for his actions. The investigator found that Ross’s conduct created an offensive work environment for Stalheim and led to her inability to work free from sexual harassment.
Ross took full responsibility for his actions and plans to focus on healing and moving forward with his family. The Minot City Council will appoint a new mayor from within the council in 15 days, during which citizens can petition for a special election.
Ross, who was elected mayor in 2022 after serving on the city council for two years, is stepping down from his position in light of the investigation. Minot, a city with a population of over 47,000 people located near the Canadian border, will soon have a new leader at its helm.
