More than a thousand people gathered at the North Dakota Capitol for a “Hands Off” rally organized by the Democratic-NPL to protest against the Trump Administration and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) for making funding cuts and causing layoffs. The 50501 movement led 50 protests in 50 states under one unified cause. The rally comes after over 275,000 layoffs were announced last month and funding cuts to programs like Social Security and Medicaid. Forbes Magazine reports that more than 26,000 of those laid off will return to work. Organizations like Humanities North Dakota are at risk of shutting down due to the cuts, according to Jason Thoms, executive director of the Dakota West Arts Council. Neighboring states like Montana and South Dakota also participated in the rallies. The protest aims to send a message to the Trump Administration and DOGE to keep their hands off the jobs and programs that millions of people rely on.
