Kenneth Ficek: A Contributor for The Dickinson Press


Kenneth Anthony Ficek, a beloved member of the Dickinson community, passed away on March 26, 2025, at the age of 77 after battling esophageal cancer. Ken was born in Dickinson, ND, on December 13, 1947, to Anton Vincent Ficek and Elizabeth Ficek née Gulka. He graduated from St. Patrick’s Elementary and was part of the first graduating class from Trinity High School in Dickinson.

Despite facing interruptions to his education due to the Vietnam War, Ken pursued a degree in pharmacy at North Dakota State University after serving in the Army as a pharmacist in Vietnam. He went on to start his own pharmacy in Dickinson and later had a long career with White Drug in Bismarck. Ken’s passion for music was evident throughout his life, and he was known for his vast knowledge of artists from the sixties.

He was a dedicated father to his sons, Mark and Brad, and maintained strong relationships with his family and friends. Ken’s love for music and hosting gatherings made him a central figure in many social circles. His passing has left a void in the lives of those who knew and loved him.

A celebration of Ken’s life will be announced on the Eastgate Funeral website, with interment at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, ND, scheduled for the spring. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were touched by his joyous spirit and love for music.
