Iran’s supreme leader warns of retaliation if Trump carries out threat to bomb country

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned the U.S. of a strong retaliation if it acts on President Trump’s threat to bomb Tehran unless a new nuclear deal is reached. Trump had given Iran a two-month window to accept his offer for talks, and reiterated the threat of bombing if they did not comply. Khamenei stated that any attack on Iran would be met with a strong reciprocal blow, and the Iranian people themselves would deal with any attempts to cause unrest within the country.

Iran recently responded to the U.S. letter, stating they would not engage in direct negotiations but were willing to continue talks indirectly as per Khamenei’s instruction. The Foreign Ministry condemned Trump’s threat of bombing as a violation of international peace and security, urging the U.S. to choose the path of peace over violence.

Trump had previously withdrawn the U.S. from the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran and reimposed sanctions. Since then, Iran has exceeded the limits on uranium enrichment set by the agreement. Western powers accuse Iran of pursuing nuclear weapons capability, while Iran maintains its nuclear program is for civilian energy purposes.

The tensions between the U.S. and Iran continue to escalate as both sides engage in brinkmanship over the nuclear issue, with threats of military action and counter-threats of retaliation. Peaceful negotiations are urged to prevent further conflict and instability in the region.
