Wendy Williams criticizes guardianship in candid ‘The View’ interview

Former talk show host Wendy Williams spoke out against her court-appointed guardianship in an interview with “The View,” stating she is not cognitively impaired and does not know why she is being kept in an assisted living facility’s “memory unit.” The 60-year-old has been under guardianship since 2022 and expressed a desire to terminate it immediately.

Williams claimed her movements are restricted by her guardianship and that she has limited contact with family and friends. Her guardian alleged she was cognitively impaired, but Williams maintains she is not. She was diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia in 2023, conditions affecting communication and behavior.

Recently, Williams’ niece took her out to dinner without staff knowledge, prompting the assisted living facility to accuse the niece of evading staff. Williams mentioned on “The View” that her unit on the memory floor is locked, and she needs assistance to leave. She was taken to a hospital for a cognitive exam after dropping a note from her room asking for help.

During the interview, Williams expressed her desire to move on with her life, get her money back, and reunite with her family and friends. She updated fans on the location of her famous purple chair from “The Wendy Williams Show,” indicating she plans to retrieve it once her guardianship ends and she gets an apartment. Williams also stated she is not incapacitated and hopes for the guardianship to end soon.
