Two Stark County K9’s have been retired due to health issues after serving fearlessly in multiple organizations for narcotics detection and suspect apprehension. Specifically, K9 Jerry, also known as K9 Jerry Lee, was diagnosed with degenerative myelopathy (DM), a rare condition that affects less than two percent of dogs. Despite efforts to treat him for a soft tissue injury, K9 Jerry Lee had to be retired, leading to the addition of a new K9, K9 Kato, in his place.
Throughout his career, K9 Jerry Lee made a significant impact within the community, with his handler, Corporal David Klatt, praising the support system that helped them succeed. The Stark County K9 Units have worked alongside various agencies, and the retirement of K9 Archer also took place recently due to medical issues.
