Teen from Wisconsin, suspected in deaths of mother and stepfather, caught with gun 800 miles away

A 17-year-old Waukesha West High School student was arrested in Iowa, more than 800 miles from his home in Wisconsin, after his mother and stepfather were found slain. The teenager was stopped for running a stop sign in WaKeeney, Iowa, where he was taken into custody and identified as a person of interest in the double homicide case being investigated by authorities in Wisconsin. The victims were identified as Donald Mayer and his wife, Tatiana Casap, who was the teenager’s mother. The teenager has been charged with taking his stepfather’s Volkswagen Atlas and a firearm. The criminal complaint filed against the teenager described the tragic scene at the victims’ home, where both were found dead.

According to friends and family, the teenager, who had perfect attendance at school, was quiet and polite, and there were no apparent tensions between him and his stepfather. The teenager left Waukesha in the Volkswagen Atlas and traveled through several states, including Iowa, before being arrested. Cellphone pings and security camera footage corroborated his movements.

Judith Mayer, Donald’s mother, described how her son and stepson enjoyed working outside together and had a shared love for plants and gardening. She also mentioned that her son owned a gun for protection, but she was not aware of any ongoing threats. The investigation into the double homicide is ongoing as authorities work to uncover more information about the tragic incident.
