Tom Llamas to replace Lester Holt as anchor of ‘NBC Nightly News’

Tom Llamas has been named as the new anchor and managing editor of “NBC Nightly News” following Lester Holt’s decision to step down this summer. Llamas, who currently anchors “Top Story with Tom Llamas” on NBC News NOW, will continue to host that program while taking on his new role at “Nightly News.” NBC News executive Janelle Rodriguez praised Llamas for his excellence in journalism, storytelling, and integrity, saying he is the perfect fit for the position.

Llamas expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and stated that anchoring “Nightly News” carries tremendous responsibility. He acknowledged Holt’s legacy and promised to be devoted to viewers and committed to delivering the truth. Llamas’ career began as an intern at a Telemundo station before transitioning to NBC News, where he has worked as a production assistant, campaign embed, and local journalist at WTVJ and WNBC. He also spent time at ABC before returning to NBC News in 2021.

Throughout his career, Llamas has covered major news events and conducted interviews with prominent world leaders. He has reported on a wide range of stories, including conflicts, political events, and natural disasters. Llamas will officially take over the anchor position at “NBC Nightly News” this summer, marking a new chapter in his career and the network’s evening news program.
