In a thrilling battle of top-ranked teams, Vermillion’s bid to repeat as State Champion in South Dakota Girls Class A Basketball came to an end in the Region 4A semifinal/SoDAK 16 qualifiers. Sioux Falls Christian, ranked #2, showcased suffocating defense to defeat Lennox 49-33, with Maya Nelson leading the Chargers with 13 points. Host Dakota Valley, ranked #4, held off defending state champion Vermillion, ranked #3, in a 62-54 victory to advance to the SoDAK 16. Camryn Sommervold led the Panthers with 17 points as they ended Vermillion’s hopes of a repeat state championship. Vermillion’s Taylor Reuvers stood out as the game’s high scorer with 25 points.
