Firefighters from across North Dakota are gathering in Minot for the annual state fire school hosted by the North Dakota Firefighter’s Association. Around 800 students are attending the event, which offers courses from beginner to command levels. While attendance is not mandatory, most departments encourage their firefighters to participate in order to improve their skills and knowledge.
Rob Knuth, the association’s training director, emphasized the importance of passing on knowledge to the next generation of firefighters. This year marks the 71st annual school and the 15th year it has been held in Minot.
The school is being held at the Clarion Hotel and Convention Center as well as the North Dakota State Fair Center. The event runs from Friday to Sunday and aims to provide essential training and certification to state firefighters. According to Knuth, the goal is to “grow our own and train our replacements” to ensure the safety and efficiency of firefighting operations throughout the state.
