Winter’s influence on Yankton athletics is evident in his 47-year career as a teacher, coach, and athletic director. He led teams to multiple state titles and runner-up finishes, impacting countless young athletes through his basketball camps. Winter’s numerous accolades, including inductions into halls of fame, highlight his legendary status in South Dakota.

Both Carney and Winter’s dedication to coaching and impact on high school athletics in South Dakota have earned them the prestigious Wooden Legacy Coaching Award. The awards will be presented on April 11, recognizing their lasting legacies of leadership and service in their respective communities.
