Ex-Human, a company specializing in chatbots powered by AI, is facing scrutiny over the use of its Botify AI platform. The company’s CEO, Rodichev, stated that they are working on clarifying their content moderation guidelines to explicitly address prohibited content types.
The company’s AI chatbots are used to improve more general-purpose models licensed to enterprise customers, including dating apps and games. One of their customers, Grindr, is working on an “AI wingman” feature that could facilitate interactions between users and AI agents. Ex-Human did not disclose which AI models they use, but observations suggest that the behavior seen on Botify AI may violate major model-makers’ policies regarding child exploitation.
Rodichev, formerly of Replika, expressed a vision of meaningful relationships with machines inspired by movies like Her and Blade Runner. He aims to make interactions with digital humans more frequent than those with organic humans by 2030, transforming experiences to be more empathetic, enjoyable, and engaging.
The company’s association with chatbots embodying underage characters has raised concerns, especially in light of past incidents involving AI companionship platforms. Despite ethical challenges, Ex-Human remains dedicated to creating innovative AI products that strive to redefine human-machine interactions in the digital era.
