Republican North Dakota Senator Kevin Cramer is recovering after suffering a concussion, seizure, and brain bleeding from falling and hitting his head on ice at his home in Bismarck. The 64-year-old senator shared on Facebook that he slipped on ice, fell hard, and was knocked unconscious. He was diagnosed with a severe concussion, a seizure, and a slight brain bleed, requiring staples in his laceration to prevent oozing.
Cramer is currently taking anti-seizure medication and resting as advised by his doctors. He remains unsure of when he will be able to return to work in Washington, D.C., but is prepared to do so quickly if necessary. His injuries come shortly after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell also suffered a fall in the Capitol earlier this month.
The senator has been in office since 2019 and was reelected in November. Unfortunately, his adult son Ian Cramer was recently sentenced to 28 years in prison for a car crash that resulted in the death of a sheriff’s deputy. Ian had fled from a hospital where he was receiving treatment for mental health concerns.
Despite the setbacks, Senator Cramer remains positive about his recovery and is grateful for the support he has received during this time. His constituents wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him back in action soon.
