ND celebrates increase in degree attainment

North Dakota has seen a significant increase in the rate of overall education attainment by 15.4% since 2009, thanks to the inclusion of workforce certificates and certifications. A report from the Lumina Foundation indicates that nearly 55% of American adults ages 25 to 64 have a college degree or industry-recognized certification, with North Dakota surpassing that level at 59%. Despite this progress, the Foundation warns against complacency and stresses the importance of continuing to push for better results in post-secondary education. The report emphasizes the need for at least 60% of adults to reach one or more milestones like an associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degree, or a relevant certificate in order to meet the demands of the evolving job landscape. North Dakota has already joined efforts to enhance recent gains and provide free tuition programs for income-eligible students. Theresa Lubbers, a board member of the Foundation, highlights the importance of ensuring education beyond high school is accessible and affordable for all individuals in order to support economic mobility and a well-prepared workforce.
