New Mexico’s Hawks threaten but struggle to bring runners home

After a series of cancellations, North Dakota softball returned to the field at the Tarleton Invitational, facing New Mexico in a hard-fought game ending in a 2-0 defeat for the Fighting Hawks. Despite threatening throughout the game, UND couldn’t capitalize on their 11 base runners, leaving multiple players on base in various innings. Pitchers Jackie Albrecht and Unity Nelson put up a strong performance, but walks proved to be costly in allowing New Mexico to score.

The game saw UND turn to their defense early, with key plays like a double play from Albrecht to Dumlao to Neumayer stranding Lobos on base. Despite the loss, players like Katie Joten and Katelyn Neumayer showed strong performances, with Joten recording her fifth multi-hit game of the season.
