After 37 years at the North Dakota Community Foundation (NDCF), President and CEO Kevin Dvorak has announced his retirement at the end of 2025. Dvorak, who began his career at NDCF in 1989 and became CEO in 1995, has overseen significant growth in charitable assets and grants during his tenure. Under his leadership, NDCF has grown from $5 million to over $160 million in assets and has made grants exceeding $118 million to support North Dakota communities, schools, and nonprofits.
Dvorak’s legacy includes the implementation of the North Dakota 40% income tax credit for gifts to qualified North Dakota endowment funds, which passed unanimously in 2007. NDCF, established in 1976, is considered one of the first statewide community foundations in the country and has seen an increase in staff size from two employees to 11 under Dvorak’s leadership. The organization now has offices in Bismarck, Dickinson, Larimore, and Wahpeton.
The board of NDCF, consisting of 15 volunteers from across the state, has appointed a transition team to lead the search for Dvorak’s successor. In a statement, Dvorak expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the foundation and highlighted the importance of supporting rural communities through grantmaking and local community endowment funds. He believes that the next CEO will take NDCF to new levels of relevance and usefulness for the citizens of North Dakota.
