Governor Armstrong of North Dakota recently recognized individuals and organizations making exceptional contributions to the state’s arts community at the North Dakota Governor’s Awards for the Arts ceremony. Established in 1977, the annual awards celebrate excellence in various categories including Individual Achievement, Private Business, Champion of the Arts, Nonprofit Arts Organization, Arts in Education, and Individual Cultural Heritage.
This year’s recipients included Marie Snavely from Bowman for Individual Achievement, Indigenized Behavioral Healing from Belcourt for Private Business, Ijjo John Stephen from Grand Forks for Champion of the Arts, Arts for Vets from Grand Forks and Minot Symphony Orchestra for Nonprofit Arts Organization, Bismarck State College Theatre for Arts in Education, and Denise Joyce Kitson from Pehinsawin for Individual Cultural Heritage.
