Kimote, the Managing Director of NCPB, suspended due to involvement in fake fertilizer scandal

The National Cereals and Produce Board in Kenya has made a decision to suspend its Managing Director, Joseph Kimote, along with other officials involved in a scam. Samuel Karogo has been appointed as the acting MD in place of Kimote. This decision comes after Kimote, Corporate Secretary John Kiplangat Ngetich, and General Marketing Manager John Mbaya Matiri were arrested in connection with a fertilizer fraud case. The officials were accused of their roles in the scam, which led to an impeachment motion against Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi. The investigation also involved questioning officials from government agencies and suppliers responsible for handling the fake fertilizer. The Ministry of Agriculture advised farmers to stop using the counterfeit fertilizer and seek guidance from NCPB facilities. KEBS initiated legal action against the manufacturer of the substandard fertilizer. The Ministry directed NCPB to recall all substandard fertilizers distributed to farmers as part of an escalating probe into the matter. The new acting MD, Samuel Karogo, has taken over to ensure that work continues smoothly at the board. This move is part of the government’s efforts to address corruption and fraudulent practices in the agricultural sector.
