North Dakota Hockey Secures 6-2 Victory Over St. Cloud State
In an impressive display of skill and teamwork, No. 16/17 North Dakota hockey defeated St. Cloud State 6-2 on Saturday night, thanks in part to sophomore goaltender Hobie Hedquist’s career-high 33 saves. The win earned UND five crucial points, keeping them in the final hosting position for the NCHC Quarterfinals and boosting them to No. 22 in the Pairwise Rankings.
The game started with both teams trading goals, but North Dakota took control in the second period, scoring three goals to break the tie and take a commanding 4-1 lead. The offensive attack was well-distributed, with 11 different players making an impact on the scoresheet, including Owen McLaughlin scoring twice.
Aside from Hedquist’s stellar performance in the net, several players stood out for North Dakota, with Caleb MacDonald and Abram Wiebe recording multiple points. The penalty kill was also instrumental in securing the win, thwarting a crucial 5-on-3 attempt from St. Cloud State in the third period.
North Dakota’s victory over St. Cloud State extends their unbeaten streak to six games against the rival team. The team’s success on the road this season and strong defensive play were key factors in the win. North Dakota will now head home to face Colorado College in a series beginning on Friday night.
