Fighting Hawks suffer back-to-back losses to conclude Hawaii trip

The University of North Dakota men’s and women’s tennis team wrapped up their weekend in Hawaii with mixed results, as the women suffered their first defeat of the season with a 7-0 loss against the University of Hawaii, while the men came up just short in a thrilling 4-3 contest. Despite the losses, there were standout performances from UND players, including doubles duo Jule Schulte and Nore Heinitz on the women’s side and Leo Galliano and Andrew Hayduke II on the men’s side.

In a back-and-forth affair, the men’s match against Hawaii saw Leo Galliano earning his fourth straight win in singles play, Andrew Hayduke II making an impact in his first action of the season, and Ethan Terry and Leandro Zgraggen putting up a fight until the end. Ultimately, Hawaii clinched the 4-3 victory in a tense third set tiebreaker on the No. 1 court.

Both teams will look to bounce back in their upcoming matches, with the men set to travel to Gustavus Adolphus and the women hosting Minnesota Crookston in their first home contest of the season. Despite the defeats, the Fighting Hawks showed resilience and determination, promising an exciting season ahead for UND tennis fans.
