The University of North Dakota women’s basketball team put up a strong fight but ultimately fell 76-66 to South Dakota on Thursday night. Despite a competitive first half, UND struggled in the second quarter and trailed 43-34 at the break. Kiera Pemberton led the Hawks with 19 points and 17 rebounds, securing her fifth double-double of the season.
The Fighting Hawks will now look to rebound as they take on South Dakota State on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. UND outshot South Dakota from the field at 44.0% compared to 38.1% and had a better three-point shooting percentage as well. However, free-throw shooting was a challenge for the Hawks, and turnovers proved costly as South Dakota capitalized on UND’s mistakes.
Despite the loss, UND showed resilience and determination in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to as little as five points. Moving forward, the Hawks will focus on improving their performance and building on their strengths as they continue to compete in the Summit League.
