Legislation Proposed to Improve Conditions at North Dakota National Cemetery
A bipartisan bill has been introduced in North Dakota to provide funding for a much-needed building at the North Dakota National Cemetery in Harwood. Currently, funerals at the cemetery are conducted outdoors, even in harsh winter weather, making it uncomfortable for attendees, especially the elderly and disabled. The proposed building would include a chapel, bathrooms, a family room, an office, and a small gallery, providing a more dignified setting for honoring veterans.
The Fargo Memorial Honor Guard, which often handles multiple funerals a day, has already raised $1.2 million for the project, but an additional $3 million is required. Supporters of the bill believe it is essential to show respect for veterans and provide a better experience for families and attendees. With the support of the community, legislators hope to secure the necessary funding to improve conditions at the cemetery and honor the sacrifices of veterans.
