Watertown Resident Douglas Allen Announces City Council Run
Douglas Allen, a third-generation resident of Watertown, SD, has declared his candidacy for City Council in Ward D. The seat is currently held by Councilman Bruce Buhler. Allen, a graduate of Watertown High School, has an extensive background in education, having taught at North Dakota State University and worked at Mount Marty College before serving as the President of a Community and Technical College in Minnesota for 14 years.
In 2017, Allen retired and returned to Watertown with his wife, Theresa, to be closer to family. Their two sons also relocated to the area last year. Allen is dedicated to community service, having served on various non-profit boards, including the Chamber of Commerce and the Minnesota Hospital Association.
His campaign focuses on creating a healthy and vibrant community where residents can live, work, and raise their families. Allen aims to engage with the residents of Ward D to gain their support in the upcoming election on June 17th. He emphasizes the importance of collaboration in addressing challenges and making Watertown a place residents can be proud to call home.
Allen joins other candidates in the upcoming election, including Jason Redemske for At-Large, Brent Mohrmann for Ward A, and incumbent Jean Moulton for School Board. Several officials, such as Ward A Councilman Mike Danforth and At-Large Councilman Randy Tupper, are still deciding on their candidacy. The community eagerly awaits decisions from Mayor Ried Holien, Councilman Bruce Buhler, and School Board Member Stuart Stein.
