Tony Venhuizen Sworn in as South Dakota’s Newest Lieutenant Governor | State News

Tony Venhuizen has been unanimously confirmed as the new Lieutenant Governor of South Dakota by the state Legislature. With a 67-0 vote in the House and a 35-0 vote in the Senate, Venhuizen was sworn in and will serve as President of the Senate. Representatives from both parties praised Venhuizen’s experience, knowledge of state government, and commitment to responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars.

Representative Liz May, who had previously not been fond of Venhuizen, admitted that she now likes him and recognizes his effectiveness. Venhuizen’s previous experience as chief of staff to former Governors Dennis Daugaard and Kristi Noem, as well as his work with the Appropriations Committee, make him well-suited for the role of Lieutenant Governor.

Venhuizen’s appointment fills the vacancy left by former Lt. Governor Larry Rhoden, who became Governor following Noem’s resignation. Venhuizen’s deep knowledge of policy, rules, and procedure, combined with his passion for history and government, make him a valuable addition to South Dakota’s leadership team.

Moving forward, Venhuizen will play a key role in shaping the state’s policies and working closely with the legislature to ensure responsible governance. His bipartisan support and track record of effective leadership bode well for his future success in the role of Lieutenant Governor.
