Elite figure skaters flown home on doomed American Eagle flight from training camp


A tragic plane crash occurred when an American Eagle flight collided with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter and crashed into the Potomac River. Onboard were a dozen elite figure skaters who were returning from a development camp in Wichita, Kansas. The Skating community and U.S. Figure Skating are devastated by the loss of these talented athletes and coaches. Russian nationals, including Shishkova and Naumov, were also onboard the flight. The couple had been living in the U.S. since 1998 and were working as coaches for the Russian national team. The Russian government expressed their condolences for the loss of their fellow citizens in the crash. The incident has deeply impacted the figure skating community and those who knew the victims.
