Russell Vought, Co-author of Project 2025, Chosen by Trump to Head Budget Office

President-elect Donald Trump has chosen Russell Vought to lead the Office of Management and Budget, citing him as an effective cost cutter and deregulator who will help implement the America First Agenda. Vought previously served in this role in Trump’s first term and is seen as someone who can dismantle the Deep State and return self-governance to the people. In response to his nomination, Vought expressed gratitude and a commitment to unfinished business on behalf of the American people.

In his role, Vought, a co-author of Project 2025, emphasized the importance of setting fiscal goals early in the budget development process to address the federal government’s fiscal irresponsibility. While some may see the President’s budget as a paper-pushing exercise, Vought views it as a powerful tool for influencing public policy at federal agencies.

Despite distancing himself from Project 2025 during the campaign, Trump has selected individuals associated with the initiative for key positions in his administration, including Vought. If confirmed by the Senate, Vought will oversee budget and policy execution across executive departments and agencies. He previously served as director of the Office of Management and Budget during Trump’s first term and was confirmed by the Senate in July 2020 after working as deputy director and acting director.
