Over the past day, the army conducted intelligence-based strikes on Hezbollah targets in Dahiyeh, a Hezbollah stronghold in Beirut’s southern suburbs. Prior to the strikes, advance warnings were issued to civilians in the area. In Gaza, strikes continued with at least six people killed, including children and women, in the city of Khan Younis.
The death toll in the fighting between Israel and Hamas in Gaza has surpassed 44,000 this week, with more than half of the fatalities being women and children. The Israeli military claims to have killed over 17,000 militants. The war began when Hamas-led militants stormed into southern Israel in October 2023, resulting in the death of 1,200 people, mostly civilians.
The Israeli offensive in Gaza has caused widespread destruction, displacing 90% of the population of 2.3 million people. Hundreds of thousands are living in squalid tent camps with little access to food, water, or basic services. Many are wondering how and when the territory will be rebuilt given the extent of the damage.
The situation remains dire, with ongoing violence and heavy civilian casualties on both sides. The impact on civilians, particularly women and children, is significant and raises concerns about the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza.
