Fighting Hawks Set for Showdown Against NDSU in Season Finale
The University of North Dakota (UND) volleyball team is gearing up for its season finale against North Dakota State University (NDSU) on November 19 at 7 p.m. The match, held at the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse in Fargo, marks the 97th encounter between the two programs, with NDSU leading the series 82-14.
Despite a challenging weekend where the Fighting Hawks fell to Kansas City and South Dakota State, the team is determined to end the season on a high note. In their last matches, UND struggled with execution, dropping both games in straight sets. The encounter against Kansas City featured close scoring, with UND taking a brief lead before succumbing to an 8-3 run by the Roos. Senior Day festivities saw the Hawks engage in a tightly contested match against South Dakota State, featuring 28 tied scores and 15 lead changes, but ultimately resulted in another defeat.
Earlier this season, NDSU triumphed over UND in a four-set match on October 22, with notable performances from sophomores Lauren Perugini and Teagan Timperley, who both recorded double-doubles. In a particularly memorable moment, sophomore Jarolin de los Santos Lugo executed a remarkable play that momentarily shifted momentum toward the Hawks.
Senior Elizabeth Norris celebrated a milestone on Senior Day, becoming the tenth player in program history to surpass 2,000 career assists. Similarly, de los Santos Lugo made history of her own by becoming the first in the program’s Division I era to record over 100 blocks and 30 aces in a season.
With a storied rivalry at stake, the Fighting Hawks aim to turn the tide against the Bison and conclude their 2024 season with a victory. Fans can access live coverage of the match at www.FightingHawks.com.
