South Dakota State basketball suffered a 75-71 defeat at the hands of No. 16 Duke on Sunday, marking their first loss of the season. Despite a strong effort, the Jackrabbits fell behind early and struggled to overtake the Blue Devils. Brooklyn Meyer led all players with 25 points, while Paige Meyer added 12 points and seven assists. The team shot 46 percent from the field and knocked down eight three-pointers, but Duke’s aggressive defense forced 15 turnovers.
Despite the loss, South Dakota State showed promise with a season-high 20 assists on 26 made field goals. The game attracted a crowd of 4,582 fans, the highest attendance at an SDSU home game since 2022. The Jackrabbits now look ahead to the North Shore Showcase in Hawaii, where they will face off against Georgia Tech on November 23 and Oregon on November 26.
This matchup against Duke marked the second time two ranked teams have played on the Jackrabbits’ home court, with SDSU now 0-2 in such contests. Although they were unable to secure a victory, the team’s performance against a strong opponent like Duke is a testament to their potential this season.
