South Dakota State Wrestling Team Shines at Warren Williamson Daktronics Invitational
Brookings, S.D. – The South Dakota State wrestling team had an impressive showing at the recently held Warren Williamson Daktronics Invitational, showcasing their talent and grit.
Drake Rhodes led the charge for the Jackrabbits, going 3-0 at 165 pounds, securing all victories with bonus points. Brady Roark also stood out at 125 pounds, defeating the top-ranked wrestler in the nation, Richard Figueroa, after the latter defaulted due to injury. Roark clinched another hard-fought win against #31 Antonio Lorenzo, edging out a 1-0 victory.
Freshman Cale Seaton contributed significantly to the team’s success with three decision wins, while Derrick Cardinal displayed his skill with a tech fall and two major decisions, finishing the day undefeated at 3-0. Avery Allen bounced back after an initial loss to secure a major decision victory, defeating NDSU’s Michael Olson convincingly.
Marcus Espinoza-Owens, competing at 165 pounds, also had a stellar day, finishing 4-0, including two major decisions and a tech fall. Bennett Berge, ranked fourth in his weight class, continued to impress with a tech fall and two decision wins, notably against #26 DJ Parker from Oklahoma.
The Jacks were particularly dominant at 197 pounds, with Zach Glazier and Thomas Dineen both finishing 3-0. Glazier claimed three tech falls, while Dineen showcased his versatility with a pin and two major decisions.
Looking ahead, the Jackrabbits will face formidable competition in their upcoming dual against Northern Iowa, ranked 14th nationally. The bout promises to be an exciting challenge, especially for Bennett Berge, who will compete against the highly-ranked Parker Keckeisen.
