Southern Illinois Basketball Set for Charles Helleny Tip-Off Classic Against North Dakota State
CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Southern Illinois Salukis basketball team will host North Dakota State on Monday at 7 p.m. CT for the annual Charles Helleny Tip-Off Classic, marking the program’s first Division I home game of the season. The event honors Charles Helleny’s legacy gift to the university.
Fans can take advantage of special promotions, including complimentary tickets for Brown Dawg’s Kids Club members and discounted options for parents. Additionally, it is Teacher Appreciation Night; inquiries can be directed to Group Sales and Special Events.

First-year head coach Scott Nagy, who possesses 30 years of coaching experience and ranks 17th among active Division I coaches with 578 career wins, will lead the Salukis. The team returns key players including Kennard Davis Jr., Jarrett Hensley, and Sheridan Sharp, complemented by 11 new arrivals to the roster. Davis has made waves with his impressive defensive play, ranking sixth nationally in steals.
In their last outing, SIU battled against Oklahoma State but fell 85-78 despite a significant rally that trimmed an 18-point deficit to just four in the final moments. Sophomore Davis Jr. and freshman Elijah Elliott are standout performers this season, contributing significantly to the team’s scoring.
North Dakota State comes into the game with a record of 2-2, and key players include Jacari White, Jackson Moni, and Tajavis Miller. Southern leads the series against NDSU 6-1, winning their last five encounters.
