Press Release: NDSU Dominates Missouri State to Secure MVFC Championship
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – In a commanding performance, North Dakota State University (NDSU) triumphed over Missouri State with a decisive 59-21 victory Saturday, clinching the Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) championship. With this win, top-ranked NDSU improved its record to 10-1 overall and 7-0 in conference play, claiming sole possession of first place—a significant achievement as it marked only the second instance of two MVFC teams meeting with perfect league records.
Quarterback Cam Miller was instrumental, throwing four touchdown passes, a career high, while backup Nathan Hayes contributed an additional score. The Bison opened the scoring with a 52-yard touchdown run from Barika Kpeenu, quickly capitalizing on Missouri State’s early fumble to establish a 14-0 lead. Miller’s connection with tight end Joe Stoffel on fourth-and-goal further extended the advantage to 21-0, capped by a lengthy 95-yard drive.
NDSU continued to dominate, with Kevin Stoffel securing his second touchdown just before halftime, giving the Bison a comfortable 35-14 lead. The offensive onslaught featured a remarkable 48-yard touchdown from CharMar Brown and another long run of 49 yards from Kpeenu, solidifying the Bison’s prowess on offense.
With the victory, NDSU extended its winning streak against Missouri State to 13 games, taking a commanding 14-2 lead in their all-time series since 2008. Missouri State, now 8-3 overall and 6-1 in the MVFC, had its efforts led by quarterback Jacob Clark, who passed for 247 yards. However, the Bears struggled to match NDSU’s relentless offensive onslaught on the road.
This win not only reflects NDSU’s impressive season but also sets the stage for potential postseason success.
