She has defended Trump’s rhetoric, stating that he is addressing the reality of the country’s current situation. Leavitt has also embraced Trump’s criticism of media outlets as “fake news.”
Prior to her role as press secretary, Leavitt ran for Congress in New Hampshire in 2022 but was unsuccessful. She previously served as an assistant press secretary during Trump’s first term. Trump also appointed Steven Cheung as his incoming director of communications, who previously held the same title during Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.
Leavitt’s appointment as White House press secretary marks another key position in Trump’s administration, as he prepares to take office and deliver his message to the American people as he aims to “Make America Great Again.”
