Florida woman accused of using fake botox receipts to justify age for fraudulent hurricane aid, authorities say

A 44-year-old Florida woman named Veronica Torres used her mother’s identity to apply for hurricane aid in Bradenton. She received almost $8,000 by falsely claiming she was forced to move out of her home due to hurricane damage. When she went to pick up the check, a city employee noticed that she looked younger than the age listed in the application. Torres tried to explain it by saying she had botox treatments, but was arrested the next day. She was charged with a third-degree felony count of filing a false public assistance claim. Torres posted $2,500 bond and is currently free. It is unclear if she has an attorney. Bradenton, where this incident took place, is a city of around 55,000 located north of Sarasota on Florida’s western coast. The area was affected by Hurricane Helene in September and Hurricane Milton in October.
