Title: Caleb MacDonald Excited to Make His Mark at UND After Alaska Transfer
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (Valley News Live) – Sophomore defenseman Caleb MacDonald has made a significant transition from the Alaska Nanooks to the University of North Dakota (UND), igniting excitement among fans and teammates alike. Last season, MacDonald recorded 14 points, including four goals—two of which were scored against the Fighting Hawks during his team’s visit.
Reflecting on his move, MacDonald expressed enthusiasm about his new home in Grand Forks. “It’s just such a talked-about program, so much history here, and I wanted to be a part of it,” he stated. The recent trend of Alaska defensemen transferring to UND made his decision easier; he follows in the footsteps of Chris Jandric and Garrett Pyke, both of whom previously donned the green and white.
While others may have opted for Jandric and Pyke’s favored number seven, MacDonald chose to embrace a new identity with the number 13. “I decided to go my own route,” he noted, appreciating the rich history of the program and the enthusiastic narratives shared by teammates who had played with the former Nanooks.
As part of a young defensive unit, with seven of nine defensemen being underclassmen, MacDonald relishes the opportunity to learn from veterans while mentoring newcomers himself. “I just go out there and try to play my hardest,” MacDonald said.
This weekend, he and his teammates will face a formidable challenge against top-ranked Denver at Ralph Engelstad Arena, with the puck dropping on Friday at 7:07 p.m. As MacDonald gears up for this pivotal matchup, he can’t help but feel energized by the electric atmosphere that UND home games offer.
