Fargo, North Dakota – Democratic Representative Karla Rose Hanson has introduced two bills aimed at protecting in vitro fertilization (IVF) and birth control in North Dakota. The bills, HB 1359 and HB 1360, seek to ensure that North Dakotans have access to vital reproductive health services without interference.
HB 1359, also known as the North Dakota Family Building Act, aims to provide insurance coverage for infertility treatments, including IVF. The bill would require insurance companies to cover IVF costs for individuals and couples struggling with infertility, making these treatments more accessible and affordable.
HB 1360, on the other hand, seeks to protect access to birth control by prohibiting employers from discriminating against employees based on their contraceptive choices. The bill would prevent employers from firing or taking adverse actions against employees who use birth control, ensuring that people can make their own reproductive health decisions without fear of repercussions.
Representative Hanson spoke about the importance of these bills, emphasizing the need to support individuals and families facing infertility challenges and protect access to essential reproductive health care. She believes that everyone deserves the right to make their own choices about their reproductive health without interference from others.
These bills come at a time when reproductive rights and access to healthcare services are under threat across the country. By introducing these bills, Representative Hanson is taking a proactive stance to protect IVF and birth control in North Dakota and ensure that all individuals have the freedom to make informed decisions about their reproductive health.
