Grand Forks murder suspect declines to show up in court – InForum

Donald “DJ” Bartlette, 45, is facing a murder charge in the beating death of Grand Forks man Tony Kiehl, 49. Bartlette claimed self-defense, stating that Kiehl came at him with a knife. Surveillance footage shows Bartlette leaving Kiehl’s apartment with blood on him, and later returning with another man, Nicholas Wride-Arnold, 35. Kiehl’s body was found by his girlfriend, and Bartlette was arrested the next day. Inside the apartment, police found a bloody knife and broken coffee table legs. Prosecutors stated that Kiehl died from blunt force trauma to the head, with cuts from a knife also present. The motive is still under investigation, and Bartlette is set to appear in court.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist Kiehl’s family with funeral expenses and travel costs. The Grand Forks Police Department is actively investigating the case and did not comment on previous claims of an attack by Bartlette on Kiehl. Bartlette refused to leave his cell for his first court appearance but is scheduled to appear the following day. The community is rallying around Kiehl’s family during this difficult time, showing support for the victim and his loved ones.
