Dead hiker discovered in Big Bend National Park in Texas

A 24-year-old hiker was found dead along the Marufo Vega Trail in Big Bend National Park in Texas after rangers noticed a vehicle that had been parked for several days and launched a search. The trail is described as a rugged 14-mile path without shade or water, making it dangerous during warmer times of year. The body was removed by helicopter and the National Park Service did not release the hiker’s name. Despite being late October, temperatures in the desert areas of the park have been reaching almost 100 degrees in the afternoons. Deputy Superintendent Rick Gupman expressed condolences to the hiker’s family and friends, stating that the entire park staff is saddened by the loss. The park is located in southwestern Texas and covers over 801,000 acres. The search for the hiker was initiated after rangers noticed the parked vehicle at a trailhead that had not been moved for days. The high temperatures in the area have been reaching nearly 90 degrees, according to the National Weather Service’s office in Midland/Odessa.
