Police believe two Minneapolis homeless camp shootings that left three dead may be connected

Over the weekend, two separate shootings at Minneapolis homeless encampments resulted in the deaths of three people and injuries to three others. Police suspect that the two incidents may be connected. The first shooting occurred on Saturday morning, resulting in one death and two injuries. The following day, another shooting at a different encampment led to the deaths of two men and critical injuries to a woman. Police are investigating the possibility of suspects fleeing the scene on foot, but no arrests have been made yet.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey attributed the increase in violence at homeless encampments to the prevalence of fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid. He described the recent shootings as tragic and emphasized the need for residents of the encampments to accept available resources to address substance abuse and mental health issues.

The victims of the shootings were identified as Deven Leonard Caston, Louis Lemons Jr., and Christopher Washington, who all died from multiple gunshot wounds. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara condemned the violence and stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of individuals living in homeless encampments.

The incidents highlight the escalating violence in and around homeless encampments in Minneapolis, with police urging residents to utilize available resources to combat drug addiction and mental health issues in order to prevent further tragedies.
