Officials: Faked 911 Call of Hiker Chased by Bear Ends in Death; Suspect Wanted for Murder


A man in Tennessee called police claiming he fell off a cliff while running from a bear, leading officials to discover a dead body. The man posed as Brandon Andrade during the call, but it was later found that his identification had been stolen. The man was identified as Nicholas Wayne Hamlett, who is wanted for murder in Tennessee and a parole violation in Alabama. Hamlett used false names when interacting with law enforcement and is believed to have fled his residence in Tennessee. An arrest warrant has been issued for him for first-degree murder. The deceased man has not yet been identified, and authorities are working on developing a sketch. Multiple agencies, including the TBI and FBI, are involved in the search for information on the deceased man and Hamlett’s whereabouts. Hamlett is considered armed and dangerous and is known to use various aliases. Anyone who sees him is asked to call 911 or Monroe County Dispatch.
